Artist, sculptor and maker of things...
Trained as an artist and sculptor, Rob Hare didn't stop to think whether he could be as deft with a chisel as he was with a cutting torch.
“It never occurred to me that I couldn't incorporate both...”
Trained as an artist and sculptor, Rob Hare "...didn't stop to think whether he could be as deft with a chisel as he was with a cutting torch." [Zachary Gaulkin, Home Furniture Magazine]. He moves around his studio as if it were a single universe.
Rob attended Silvermine School of Art and received his BA in 1970 from Goddard College. He completed his formal training with an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Cincinnati in 1974.
After graduate school, working in a limited space Rob began making what he calls "Heirloom Boxes" that combine wood and metal as equals that both invite and challenge the viewer to open them. As his work began to grow in scale, it was natural for Rob to continue to combine the elements of wood and metal and he began creating furniture.
Rob thinks of the things we interact with in our daily lives as practical sculpture, useful objects that slowly reveal the creative interaction of forms.
